The Effects of Constructivist Learning Activities on Trainee Teachers’ Academic Achievement and Attitudes

The aim of this study is to find out the effects of active learning methods based on constructivist approach on the prospective teachers’ achievements, attitudes towards the subject matter and perceptions about the learning process. Experimental design and qualitative research method were used in the study. In the experimental group, constructivist learning methods were applied and in the control group, traditional learning approach was followed. The participants consisted of 43 sophomores at Dumlupinar University Education Faculty. The results revealed a significant difference between the achievement levels of the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group, but no significant difference was found in their attitudes. Depending on the findings, it can be said that constructivist learning activities enabled the students to become more successful and to develop positive perceptions.
